As all good things come in pairs, the doubling-up of the Chinese word happiness can only mean "double the fortune". In this interpretation, the characters have been modernised and are abstract in their form. The age old "double happiness” symbol of the Chinese can be startlingly modern as a piece of three dimensional graphics. In this application, the form is reduced to a minimum without losing its meaning in order to emphasize its sculptural quality. The celebratory notion of lighting a candle is consistent with the meaning of "double happiness".
