Hand-painting the Gate-Guardians

Our pair of gate-guardians welcomes you to Goods of Desire Stanley!

In one cold February night, designers from Studio G.O.D. got together at Stanley for a special mission : to give life to a pair of Goods of Desire gate-guardians!

By skillfully brushing golden-paint onto a vertical glass surface (without drip!), a pair of guardian figures were drawn onto our shop doors! Traditionally, gate-guardians are painted onto gates as a charm that protects the inhabitants from evil spirits. In modern days, posters of the gate-guardians are glued onto doors for feng shui purposes or as a symbol of luck.

At Goods of Desire, we wanted to stay true to the original tradition of painting by hand while incorporating a modern interpretation of the gate-guardians. We have replaced the weapons that the guardians traditionally hold with modern musical instruments to express the message of embracing diversity. We believe that music is a global language and with music we welcome people from all around the world into our stores.

We are always looking for talented individuals to join our team of designers. Interested parties may check out the "Career" section of our website!
