G.O.D. Promotes Sustainability

Goods of Desire promotes sustainability!

At Goods of Desire, we take our environmental and social responsibilities seriously.  We promote sustainability by both designing and selling products that encourage environmentally friendly behavior without sacrificing style and design. Taking an everyday product such as a take-away disposable paper cup and infusing it with a new energy and functionality to develop the ceramic Cha Chen Tang is an example of how the Studio G.O.D design team advocate the sustainability message to our society.

We have a selection of bed sheets and bath towels which are made from bamboo fabric.  Bamboo fabric is a natural textile made from the pulp of the bamboo grass and is more sustainable than most textile fibers because it is quick growing and does not usually require the use of pesticides and herbicides to thrive.  In certain textile forms, bamboo retains many of the antibacterial and absorbent properties it has as a plant.

Our cushions are filled with leaves of the myrobalan plant.  These leaves, naturally aromatic, not only provide firm support but also have anti-inflammatory properties especially suited for rheumatoid and arthritic conditions.

We have a range of pillows made out of environmentally friendly buckwheat.  Pillows stuffed with buckwheat are purported to have healing and restorative properties.  Unlike synthetic fillers used by conventional pillows, our buckwheat pillows do not conduct or reflect much heat and are completely ergonomic, providing sturdy support to the back, head and neck.

We also support other designers that adopt sustainable practices.  Products that are available through our stores include Paperthinks (handmade recycled leather bound notebooks); Ecuocan (100% compostable, BPA free drinking containers); Recycle (bags made from recycled materials); Or Tea (certified organic tea with 100% biodegradable tea bags);  Philips LED lights (LED lights are mercury free, energy efficient and a cost effective alternative to incandescent lighting); and many other brands.
